Ryan EvansNew! |
We are pleased to announce that Ryan Evans will be joining Chorleywood as our overseas player for the 2011 season.
Ryan is a right-arm seam bowler who has played for Woodville District CC in South Australia for the past 10 seasons and was both the Grade B leading wicket-taker and player of the season in 2010-2011. Ryan has also previously played in UK in 2008 for Masham CC in North Yorkshire.
Ryan will be making his debut for the 1st XI in our game against Radlett 2s this Saturday, so let's all make Ryan feel at home here at the 'Wood and wish him every success for the 2011 season.

Those at the club last weekend will have noticed a new face behind the bar - Lauren Rose. Lauren will be running the bar again this Saturday and Sunday from 5pm, and indeed for most Senior and Colts matches this season. Keep an eye on the website for opening times and please join the Committee in making Lauren feel welcome at the club!

Given the fantastic turn out over our Winter Nets we expect
availability to continue to be high. We will endeavour to play all

we may have to operate a rotation system in order to ensure everyone
is given an opportunity in the early weeks of the season. To help us
make this easy for everyone, please complete your availability on the
website up to 30 April/1 May weekend as soon as possible.

Welcome to the new season starting soon New! |
Dear Players, Honorary and Social Members, Colts and Friends of the Club,
I would like to welcome you to another cricket season at Chorleywood Cricket Club. The season starts in earnest with a Senior practice game on Saturday April 16th. Winter training and net practice for Juniors and Seniors have been going well and end on the second weekend in April, with training starting on the Common in the following week.
Last year was one of our most successful seasons at Chorleywood with several Colts teams getting through to the County finals, and half of our six senior teams getting promotion to a higher league. Furthermore, we achieved re-accreditation of our Clubmark and ECB Focus Club status and published our Club Strategy for the next five years based on the three important pillars of YOUTH, FAMILY and COMMUNITY.
Following our AGM in November last, we elected a new Cricket Manager – Rohan Lee, and a new Club Events Coordinator - Jonny Rice. These appointments are welcome additions to our Management Committee. The three Honorary Officers of the Club, the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary were re-elected for another year, and most of the various Leadership roles, needed for the many aspects in running a cricket club, were filled. However, the Club always welcomes new faces and additional help from players, parents and friends would be much appreciated..
This year we are honoured by an MCC visiting team who will be playing our 1st XI in an all day match on the Common on Wednesday July 20th. On Tuesday May 31st we are hosting a County Under 15 Ladies 35-over match starting at 1pm and on Tuesday 28th June we will host a County Over-70s match – Hertfordshire vs. Sussex – both these events are firsts for Chorleywood. Then on Friday 29th July we host an Under-15 boys 50 over Area match – South West vs. East Herts. Some of our senior colts may be in the South West team. As in previous years, a Kwik Cricket Festival involving all the local Primary Schools will be held on the Common May 24th. On all occasions we shall have the bar open for spectators who we hope will be numerous.
As usual, the Club will have a series of events throughout the summer, details of which will appear on the website and in the Club Fixture Booklet; copies of which will be available in the Pavilion by the time the season starts.
This season we shall stop playing cricket on the Common after the league games finish in the first weekend of September. This is so that contractors can get to work on the square to start a 3 year programme to replace all the pitches. There will still be some Club cricket but all matches will be played Away.
So it just remains for me to wish you all a happy cricket season whether playing, officiating or spectating, blessed we hope, with good weather and plenty of sunshine.
Yours in cricket,
Owen Edis
Chairman of Chorleywood Cricket Club

CWCC Annual Paint-In 2011!New! |
A message from our Pavilion Secretary, Gary Proctor:
The 2011 season is fast approaching, the first game being on 16th April - which was certainly a surprise to me. As usual there are a number of jobs that need doing to get the Pavilion into a decent state for the season. To this end I am having paint in's / clubhouse job sessions on Saturday 26th March (next weekend) and Saturday 2nd April, starting at 9.00am and finishing at 12.00 midday. I will have all brushes and paint so you just need bring yourself and some dirty clothes. Last year only one person turned up to the first session (thank you Mr J Lyons) so here's hoping for a couple more this year.
I have already done a lot of the painting so there will be a lot of cleaning jobs Over the two weekends I would like to achieve the following :
- Paint Gents toilets (2 people for 2 hours)
- Paint shower ceiling (one person for 1 hour)
- Paint kitchen ceiling (one person for 1 hour)
- Repair and Paint outside veranda (3 people for 3 hours)
- Clean kitchen cupboards (yes - whilst the ceiling is being
painted)
- Clean windows and frames
- General tidy up of ground around the pavilion.
It would be great if you can get to one session to help. If you are planning on coming, if you could e-mail or Owen to let me know then I can plan what to do before the day arrives.

SARACENS v WASPS (@ Wembley) for £5.00!!New! |
We have received details of a cracking offer to see some Xmas rugby on the cheap, courtesy of Saracens via the Herts League:
"Our Major Sponsor Saracens are offering members of the Saracens Cricket League some good old Christmas cheer…. Tickets for £5 for the Wembley fixture against Wasps on Sunday 26th December with kick off at 14.45.
This offer is exclusive to the SHCL membership but is for the first 250 ticket sales only and seats for these tickets will be in one block at Wembley.
In order that this offer benefits Saracens as well as the league, we (the league) will have to commit to the purchase of the 250 tickets and then distribute them
on a first come first serve basis to the clubs.
If the feedback from you, the clubs, is positive then we the league will make the commitment to purchase and distribute the tickets on behalf of Saracens.
This is a fantastic offer to watch a cracking local derby at one of the best stadiums in the world – it will be a great afternoon with entertainment for all the family."
So - if you are interested in purchasing tickets for this event, please let us (either e-mail Rob Dunstone or Owen Edis) by the close of play tomorrow (FRIDAY 26th NOVEMBER) and we will pass that interest on to the Herts league.

Runs & Wickets Chases - The final lap!New! |
With one weekend of league matches (and five friendlies) left in 2010, who is your money on for the top run-scorer and wicket-taker for this season?
The top five batsmen, as things stand, are:
5. In the clubhouse (as it were) with 554 runs - BEN BROOKS
4. The new kid on the block with 604 runs - can he finish on a high note - ROHAN LEE
3. Just into his twenties after his birthday, but with 656 runs to his name - TOM SMITHSON
2. The club captain, and until recently, leading run-scorer but now in second-place on 788 runs - RICH (or Ritchie if you're Owen) SOULSBY
1. Out in front, the man known in the Watford Observer as "The Run Machine", with 827 runs - SIMON DARE.
On the bowling front there's a two-man smackdown for the title it would appear (although maybe PETER DUNNING, who's currently on 41 wickets, might have something to say about that) - with two superstars riding high with 48 wickets apiece.
In one corner - he's seen off the young upstarts for years, it's MICK "ROSEY" ROSE. In the other corner - one of those self-same young upstarts - JAMIE "J-DOG" SMITHSON.
Who will come out on top? We'll know come sunset on 26th September. But in the meantime, good luck to you all.
