Nets opening ceremony - THIS SUNDAY!!! New! |
As you may be aware, work is just being completed on a complete refurbishment of our practice nets. This has been an expensive project, but one that will be of benefit to all playing members (both senior and colts) as we will have a much improved batting surface and extended bowlers run-ups.
The improved nets will be officially opened by District & County Councillor Chris Heywood at 12.30pm this Sunday (25th April) - after Colt's practice has finished and before our friendly game v St John's Wood. The clubhouse and will be open, the bar will be fully stocked and there will be nibbles for all as well!
So - please do try and come along on Sunday to help celebrate the opening of our new, improved nets and to enjoy (hopefully) another glorious sunny day on Chorleywood Common.

Clubhouse renovations 2010New! |
A message from our Clubhouse secretary, Gary Proctor:
It's that time of year again where we coat the Clubhouse with as much paint and other coverings as we can to stop it falling down. In 2009, through the hard work we put in, we managed to increase the clubhouse facilities score given by visiting teams. It would be great to maintain that in 2010 and also make our club surroundings as pleasant as we can to enhance our enjoyment of the season.
I am scheduling two painting days:
1. - Saturday 27th March 2010 from 9.00am to 12.00 midday for finishing off the internal painting.
2. - Saturday 10th April 2010 again from 9.00am to 12.00 midday for treating the outside of the clubhouse / veranda. In case we are hit by bad weather Saturday 17th will be a 'reserve' day. If this is needed I shall advise.
So please try and find an hour, or two, to drag yourself along with those old painting clothes and help make the club a prettier place to get drunk in! Ten or twelve people for two hours can get a great deal done. Please don't go down the 'someone else will turn up and do it' route as invariable that doesn't happen. Ten people may not sound like many to round up but in reality it always is.
Hope to see many of you on the 27th!!

Appeal for help running CWCCNew! |
As you are probably aware, the administration side of our club is run by a small number of dedicated individuals - however, at this point in time there are not nearly enough people who have come forward to assist the with the mountain of jobs that need to be done - both to keep up with the week-to-week running of the club all-year round (not just over the summer months when there is actually cricket to be played) as well as planning for the future and making sure that we all have a club to be part of in years to come.
At the moment there are a couple of main areas where help is needed:
Sponsorship & Advertising Secretary / Funding Manager:
This is a vital area, where we really need to make more headway than we have in recent times. CWCC, as we all know, is an important part of the scenery in Chorleywood, and for a lot of people is one of the landmarks by which the village is recognised when they drive through on the main road past the ground. As such, we know that there would be local businesses or organisations that would want to be associated with the club and help both ensure our future and help us to grow. What we need is somebody to take on the job of encouraging sponsors and helping to raise funds for these purposes, especially as we look ahead to the improvements & renovations that we all know will need to be made to our ground and pavilion sooner rather than later.
Bar Secretary:
We also have a vacancy at the moment for a Bar Secretary. The incumbent would need to organise the bar rotas as well as be knowledgeable in, and be willing and able to train others in all aspects of opening, serving at, cashing up in and closing our bar. Mike Norris from the Red Lion in Chenies will be taking care of stocking up the bar - so it is the running and serving at the bar on match days especially that is the key element of this job.
Possible Landlords...
At the moment the Executive Committee is making various enquiries about possibly securing the services of an overseas player for the 2010 season - as part of what we would like to offer, we will need to find accommodation for the player in question, whether for the whole summer or through a number of willing volunteers offering accommodation for shorter periods at some points over the season. So, if anybody is willing to volunteer to help out the club in this way, it would very much appreciated.
If you are able to help in any of these areas, please get in touch with our Chairman, Owen Edis as soon as possible.

Chorleywood and CheniesNew! |
Last night Chenies & Latimer CC held their EGM regarding the possible merger with us. Denys, Owen & Simon attended at their invitation.
Their Constitution required a 2/3rd majority for dissolving the Club as necessary for a merger. Of the 67 eligible to vote, 35 voted for, 27 against and 5 did not vote and under their rules have to count as against.
As they did not achieve the 2/3rd majority the resolution to merge was not passed.
As the majority wanted to proceed with the plans, especially the players, there will be further discussion about their future at their January AGM. In the meantime our Club will continue as before.
We wish all our members a Happy Christmas and hope to see many of you at HOTD on New Years Day

Pavilion open this Sunday!New! |
The pavilion will once again be open this Sunday (6th December) between midday and 3-00pm.
Supplies of drink and bar-snacks have been ordered and there will also be the attraction of the latest 50-Club draw. The scorers will all also be present (hopefully) for a team photo to celebrate being crowned CWCC's "team of the year".
There will also be a raffle with a prize of an excellent case of wine, kindly donated by The Red Lion in Chenies (tickets will be available from Owen Edis if you are unable to be there on Sunday).
So please try and get along to our club on Sunday and banish those winter blues!

CWCC Scorers - Team of the Year 2009New! |
Scorers are often forgotten or overlooked by many Cricket clubs – on many occasions, it’s a job that is shared amongst the players (and often done by those who would rather score than Umpire!) – but we are very lucky indeed at Chorleywood CC that we have a small band of dedicated people who take the job of scorer a lot more seriously than that – and who have all become a valued and vital part of the teams that we put out every weekend.
Their scorebooks (and laptop) are always accurate and immaculate and are the envy of the teams that we play against – the fact that for every game our senior teams played in 2009 the 11 players were joined by a dedicated scorer is a great achievement that the whole club should be grateful for and proud of.
So – all our thanks go to our scorers: Brian Mulholland (especially for his hard work in organising his team every weekend and making sure that all games are covered), John Jenkins, Ken Moore, Steve Ord, Helen Smithson and Jane Spurr – the very deserving Chorleywood Cricket Club “Team of the Year” for 2009.

Resolution passed at EGM re mergerNew! |
At the EGM held following our Annual General Meeting on 4th November, a resolution (click here) regarding the proposed merger between Chorleywood CC and Chenies & Latimer CC was passed (27 votes for, 0 votes against, 2 abstentions).
Due to the rather more complicated constitution and voting rules that Chenies & Latimer CC have, they will not be holding an EGM on this matter until mid-December, so we will not know until then if the merger will proceed. Obviously, as soon as the result of their vote is known we will communicate it (by post or e-mail and on the club website) with all our members.
Please take the time to read this resolution - if you have any questions about it or its implications please contact any member of the Executive Committee.
