Chorleywood Saturday 3rds - League v Potton Town 2 |
10th May 08 - HL - Away |
Match Drawn |
The 3s, much changed from the previous week, visited the excellent Potten Town club for a Div 10 fixture. Potten Town is a super place to play your cricket, it's only drawback is the fact it is nearer Scotland than Hertfordshire, as Kevin pointed out some teams travel less far when on tour. Kevin was the star of the first part of the game crafting out an elegant 44 (Kevin has a great record in terms of getting to between 20 and 49 but a rotten conversion rate into the 50s so in future he will be retired when he gets to 35 and sent back in later for another 35*). On his departure we were in all sorts of trouble at 106-7 and your correspondent would have settled for 120 however Jamie Smithson and Ant Hall put on a top class and faultless 50, both hitting career bests and ensuring we batted the full 53 overs, both can be really proud of the determined way they dug us out of the crisis. 159 was not a great score on a good track so in an attempt to confound the opposition we opened with veteran off spinner Mike Rose and 14 year old leggie Josh Bungard, both bowled well with great control but no luck. Josh had a couple of chances missed and beat the bat many times, an excellent debut by the young man. So good was the control that at 24 overs Poten Town were only at 50-1, they did try to up the pace and we started to change the bowling but despite Rosie's 5-65 and class run out by David H we could not apply enough pressure to force a win, Potten ended on 148-7 and a draw was probably a fair result. As I write on Monday evening most of the team have returned, some booked flights into Luton, some used the East coast line.
