Chorleywood Saturday 3rds - League v Boxmoor 2 |
5th Aug 06 - HL - Westwood Park |
Won by 50 runs |
CHORLEYWOOD 3rd XI notched up their second successive victory to help ease any relegation worries with a 50-run win at home to Boxmoor 2nd XI on Saturday.
Stand-in Chorleywood Skipper Kevin O'Donnell won the toss and elected to bat first before then being out to the first ball of the second over of the game without troubling the scorers. Rob Dunstone and Will Pendered then laid the foundations of the innings with a patient partnership of 81 in 27 overs before Dunstone was eventually out for 51, his first half-century of the season. When Pendered was dismissed in the following over, Boxmoor may have thought that they were in with a chance of keeping the hosts down to a manageable score, but Wood youngsters Liam Singh and Matt Grant then put on a magnificent unbroken stand of 142 at nearly a run a ball. Grant ended on 59 in an innings that included 10 4s whilst Singh remained unbeaten on 73 as the duo put the visitors bowling to all parts of the ground to help Chorleywood post an intimidating total of 233-3 from their 53 overs.
In the field, Chorleywood opened with the spin bowling of Ryan Toms and Martin Henderson to try and prevent Boxmoor getting off to a flying start and their plan looked to work as Henderson bowled Rasheed in his second over for just 1. A period of consolidation for the visitors followed as they passed 100 before losing their next wicket but once Liam Singh picked up a wicket with his first ball to dismiss Berwick for exactly 50, Wood continued to take wickets at regular intervals and prevented Boxmoor from building any real momentum. Alex Botterill picked up 3-39 from his 9-over spell and Will Pendered continued his fine game as he pinned the batsmen down, taking 2 wickets whilst conceding just 23 from 10 overs of left-arm spin. Young Ryan Toms then returned at the death to pick up the final 2 wickets as Wood clinched the victory by 50 runs with just 3 balls to spare.
