Honorary members and Friends - Lunch New! |
The annual Honorary members and Friends of the Club lunch was held yesterday, 2nd October. Guest of honour was Life Member and octogenarian Rex Vine who played for the Club and Hertfordshire as a superb left arm spinner from the 1950s and into the 1970s. He looked after the square, preparing wickets for Saturday and Sunday cricket throughout the season. It was great for the older members to meet up with him again. Denys Downing our President spoke of our pleasure in seeing him again and thanked the caterers from the Rose and Crown for providing an excellent lunch for all to enjoy.

A bizarre but brilliant day to behold - New! |
As the title suggests, our teams really pulled their fingers out when deciding their fancy dress themes this year. 8 teams took part including a firm of Italian plumbers, a set of farmers and their sheep, some jockeys and a bunch of bananas accompanied by incredibly protective Gorillas!
The day got off to a bit of a damp start with intermittent (and thankfully short) showers but this did not deter our competitors. Only twice was play stopped and some great cricket was played by all. Luckily the sunshine returned for the remainder of the days play and the BBQ and bar was well attended throughout.
With the Bananas and Gorillas rushing off to a wedding of some sort it meant a bowl-off ensued for which team would take the extra spot in the semi-finals. After one of the teams was disqualified for overly aggressive captaincy, the semi-finals were contested between the farmers, plumbers, jockeys and some stray kiwis.
With the night drawing in, the plumbers eventually came out on top and were crowned CHAMPIONS! With Karaoke being the source of entertainment for the evening crowd, 'The Shack' was given a good rocking until the early hours. Notable performances came from Vikash 'Punjabi MC' Patel and Stevie 'Wonder' Ord - not a dry eye in the house for his renditions I can assure you!
Many thanks go to everyone who made the day a success and we all look forward to Club Day 2017 (which is Sunday 27th August for those of you who like to plan ahead!).

CWCC - Community Day August Bank HolNew! |
After 2 years of bad weather, the annual event took place under cloudless skies once more.
24 mostly mature members of the Chorleywood Community assembled to contest two 20:20 matches on the Common.
It was certainly competitive and quite conveniently the matches ended with honours even between the two sides
Match 1. Team B, 165 -7, from 20 overs v Team A,169-7 with a 4 off the last ball to win the match.
Match 2. Team B, 147- AO from 20 overs beat Team A, 137 AO from 19.5 overs
Hopefully the contest was resolved with only a few aches and pains and no serious injuries.
Fine fare was provided with bacon sandwiches for breakfast, and a lunch and a BBQ supported with the usual liquid refreshment helped to continue the festivities into the early evening when families and friends joined in the fun and the banter.
