Runs, runs, runs ...New! |
Congratulations to Matt Watson who, with his 60 yesterday, reached exactly 1000 runs for the season (694 of them in the saturday league 1's). Darey isnt far behind in the run chase on 844 runs and with a potential 7 games left the race is on!
In the wicket chase it looks like a straight fight between the two Watsons with Matt only 3 behind Chunky ... although Dunners could still sneak up from behind if he plays enough games ...

Clubmark DayNew! |
On Thursday 30th
August our Club is being audited for Clubmark accreditation. To achieve Clubmark
is necessary if we are to be able to obtain grants from the ECB towards vital
improvements to the Club in the next few years.
Four key elements of this review
are inspection of our policies, procedures and plans for:
- Our duty of care in safeguarding children
- Our cricket programme especially coaching
- Our sports equity and ethics
- Our Club management
A
key element of 4 above, is that the Club has a development plan for next few
years that is supported by you the members. Your Management Committee have been
working on this during recent months and it is attached for your viewing. We
hope all members will buy in to what is proposed.
In summary it has three key
thrusts:
- to change the organisation and method of running the Club
- to move the square further from the road
- to build a new modern pavilion in keeping with the surroundings
1
above requires that we share the key functions of the Club over a much wider
range of people through several new and important Action Groups being
formed. You can see what these are from the table on Page 8 of the development
plan.
On Clubmark Thursday, a
colts match and colts coaching session has been arranged to take place during
the audit. Several members of the Management Committee will be present to
show our Hertfordshire Cricket Development Manager, Richard Darwin, what the
Club is all about.
Wish us luck!!!

Bowling milestone reached ....New! |
Congratulations to Nick Rice for passing the 300 wicket barrier in last saturdays match. I just want to make it clear that these are only "since website records began" as Nick actually passed 300 CWCC wickets some time in the 1940's and is actually now closer to 3000 wickets!

NEWS FLASH ...New! |
Round the world in lager is cancelled as an offical event now tomorrow night due to the fact that the chances of any of us playing cricket is quite slim ...
If we do find ourselves back in the bar we can always do several return trips to Australia and Belgium instead.

Village DayNew! |
The Club set up a stand behind the pavilion at CW Village Day last Saturday when several of our members took time to hand out our recent flyer and asked for moral support from the residents in relation to the problems we are currently facing. Many people completed a questionnaire to help provide data on local views. We found these overwhelmingly in support of doing whatever is necessary to avoid the possibility of having to move cricket to another location from the Common,
where it has been played for 200 years. It is hoped that by working with the Parish Council a satisfactory solution to
resolve the problems will soon be found. The linked photos show our stall shortly after setting up. Thanks are due to Denys Downing, John Watkiss, David Rayvern Allen, Bill Finch and later attendance by Jane Spurr and Natalie Edis not in the photos. Also to Patrick Ryan for providing notices and badges. Results of the survey will be published in due course.

Chorleywood Cricket Club & Village DayNew! |
1st XI captains and players please be aware that on Saturday 14th July the annual Village Day will be held in Chorleywood, this year along the drive running away from the pavilion car park behind our scorebox. The Parish Council have asked that we keep the entrance to this drive clear for ambulance and fire engine access. On this day please avoid parking in front of this access point or in the centre of the car park. Chorleywood players are requested to park across the road near the Parish Council offices, leaving the car park for the visiting team. There will be an attendent present.
Note also that CWCC will be having a stall as part of Village day close to the pavilion where we shall be providing information about the Club including the problem of the proximity to the road and the need to replace the old pavilion. We shall run a childrens competition for the best drawing of how a new pavilion might look and have the remaining stocks of our 150 year anniversary book available for a contribution. Our stall will be manned by Denys Downing, John Watkiss, David Rayvern Allen, Bill Finch and myself. If there are other Club members who can be there to answer questions from the public and give information about the Cricket Club (a brief is available!) we would appreciate some additional help. We would like to have two members on the stall from 12 until 4pm. Then we can each do an hour or so each and watch some cricket in between!! Thanks (Owen Edis)
